Enduro Round 7 Oct 18th Carnegrie
The final Round of the Isle of Man ACU Centre Enduro Championship 2009 was held at Carnagrie 18th Oct. Originally planned as a fun event the day featured 1 race for all classes in a multi-lap Hare and Hounds format. The course included the very wet low lying ground which provided a real challenge for the 75 competitors with deep ruts appearing in several places and marshals required to assist the unlucky riders that got stuck.
A few steep rocky and slippy climbs sorted the more competent riders out but there would be few who survived the day with out at least a couple of spills as mist soaked grass and mud meant that grip was almost none existent.
The overall event was won by MX star Alex Rockwell on his 250F Yamaha from recently crowned E3 Expert British Champion Ben Begbie, 3rd was Clubman rider Ady Smith who looked very fast on the day. Expert rider Robbie Turner managed to limp home with a suspected broken collar bone after a early shunt whilst battling at the front of the field and inheriting the lead after Rocky and Ben took a wrong turn.
Smith took the Clubman honours from Andy Cannell who had a good battle in the early stages with old warhorse Robert ‘Bodger’ Quayle taking 3rd place and 5th overall. Championship regular Matt Garside claimed 4th and rode one of his best races to date.
Sportsman class featured a race long battle between Richard Curphy, John Grose, Andrew Bass and Nick Cannon whos result was enough to secure him the Sportsman championship.
Of the 8 novices that started only 3 made it to the finish and it was Jason Cooil who took the honours in an event that was not for the faint hearted. He was followed by Dave Abbott and John Pearson.
Event organiser Graham Taubman would like to thank all who helped set out and take in the course. Andy McDonald, Mark Hutchinson, Paul & Andy Cannell, Bob Clague, Gary Cawtherly, Nige Beaumont & Matt Garside.
Also those that ran the event so well on the day Timekeeper James Crow, Clerk of the Course Dougie Christian, Stewards Gerry Hannay and the indispensable Brenda Crellin.
Thanks also on behalf of the riders to Peter Grey, Mark Lacey and Paul ‘Sid’ Cannan for providing bog extraction services!
Well done to all competitors who took part in the 2009 season.
